CSF took the Consider Chiari campaign to the North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP)

considerchiari.jpg At CSF one of the things we often hear is that medical professionals just don’t know what Chiari is. CSF wants to help change this. We have put together an educational program called Consider Chiari . The objective of this campaign is to spark awareness, putting Chiari on the radar of medical professionals. We want people to Consider Chiari .

This campaign was successfully used at the Grand Rounds at Chicago’s Advocate Lutheran General Hospital last year and, more recently, we took the campaign to the North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) meeting on June 18.

Cathy Poznik, CSF’s National Chapter Coordinator, present ed a bit of information about the goals and pla ns of our organization and introduce d Consider Chiari to the group.  After the presentation, Gretchen Lee Delametter, RN, MSN, CPNP-AC, CNS, Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of North Caroli na at Chapel Hill, will spoke in more detail about Chiari malformation.

Our goal is for 100% of the participants who hear this program to leave with a clearer picture of the symptoms of Chiari and an understanding that proper diagnosis requires an MRI.

Thank you to Kara Willette, RN, member of the North Carolina NAPNAP group and mother of a son who has Chiari. Kara was instrumental in making this lecture possible.

“I found the dinner very informative and interesting. My dad had a serious Chiari malformation with a syrinx and ended up at GWU Hospital in DC. I only ever knew it from an adult standpoint and I found the pediatric viewpoint very educational. I am a student PNP currently, but through this event I will be sure to keep Chiari on my radar for when a potential case arises. Thanks!"
-Alexandra Vill RN, BSN, CNII, Duke Children's Primary Care at Southpoint

"I enjoyed the presentation very much and thank you for providing it. I learned quite a bit and was inspired when I got home to do a bit of refreshing about Chiari. Again, my thanks."
-Diane Yorke PhD RN CPNP

"Ms. Poznik, I attended the NCNAPNAP meeting last month where you had a presentation on the Consider Chiari Campaign. Thank you for bringing attention to your organization and the campaign. It was nice to get parents perspective on Chiari malformation and syringomyelia. This information is useful for anyone who works in pediatrics."
-Jennifer Daniels CPNP

"Thank you so much for sponsoring the NAPNAP dinner.  As a PNP in the UNC Special Infant Care, this information is very helpful.  I also llove my coffee cup!"
